Bioethics Art Competition wishes to thank the esteemed members of the jury. We are privileged to have them participate in this international competition and appreciate their sensitivity to the arts in their professional roles as doctors, artists and bioethicists.
Dr. Colleen Gallagher, Phd, LSW, FACHE.
Throughout her career Dr. Gallagher has worked as a social worker and program director for programs serving the mentally ill and their families, persons with HIV/AIDS, and the bereaved and other vulnerable populations. As an artist, she creates watercolor paintings and has an interest in photography and quilting (including design). She has received Doctoral degrees in Bioethics in Health Care Professions and Social Work from The Union Institute and University, Cincinnati, Ohio and Ethics Fellowship from Georgetown University, in Washington DC. Dr. Gallagher is the Chief and Executive Director of the Section of Integrated Ethics in Cancer Care and an Associate Professor in the Department of Critical Care at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She is the International Ethics Expert for the UNESCO Chair in Science and Technology; The International Ethics Expert for the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights Co-Chair and Clinical Ethics Consultation Affairs Standing Committee, American Society of Bioethics and Humanities (ABSH)
Dr. Dominic Man-kit Lam is the Fung Hon Chu Endowed Chair and Humanities at Hong Kong Baptist University. He was formerly a professor at Harvard Medical School and The Texas Medical Center, and also the founding Director of the Baylor Center for Biotechnology and the Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology. As a scientist, Dr. Lam invented “Edible Vaccine”. As an artist, Dr. Lam invented “Project Orbis”, the international flying eye hospital to China since 1982, and established the World Eye Organisation (WEO) to prevent and treat the sight impaired in 1988. in 2013 Dr. Lam was selected as one of the 8 most representative artists in Hong Kong History.
Dr. Yechiel Michael Barilan is a practicing physician, specialist in internal medicine, and Associate Professor of Medical Education in the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. He has written numerous articles and books in Bioethics, Jewish Law and Bioethics, Art and Bioethics. Dr. Barilan worte “Contemporary Art and the Ethics of Anatomy”, a paper published in Perspectives and Medicine in 2007, vol. 50, no. 1. Dr. Barilan writes that he is interested in the interaction between ethical problems and their backgrounds in terms of social history, moral psychology and fundamental philosophical questions.
